Political Theory

Political Theory considers structures, principles and processes of government, political institutions and politics. "EMOTIONAL AMORAL EGOISM": A Neurophilosophical Theory of Human Nature and its Universal Security Implications by Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan sets out a theory of human nature in which people are predominantly emotionally driven, only occasionally employing reason and engaging in reflection in their habitual routines. This has a number of implications for the study of politics. It implies that people are highly susceptible to political strategies and discourses that play on powerful emotions, such as fear, for example. Governments should, therefore, take into account the emotional drivers of human nature, rather than rational action, when developing policies. "EMOTIONAL AMORAL EGOISM": A Neurophilosophical Theory of Human Nature and its Universal Security Implications by Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan also contends that individuals are “emotionally self-interested” and only “pseudo-altruistic”. It argues that while human beings are not endowed with innate morality, they do possess moral sensitivities developed as part of their survival instincts. This suggests that good governance mechanisms and moral norms are critical to societal wellbeing and political stability.

Political Theory Discussion

Political Theory in SUSTAINABLE HISTORY AND THE DIGNITY OF MAN: A Philosophy of History and Civilisational Triumph by Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan also emphasizes the importance of good governance for ensuring minimum standards for improvement of the human and even post-human conditions. It sets out minimum criteria for good national and global governance that balance human nature attributes (emotionality, amorality and egoisms) against human dignity needs (reason, security, human rights, accountability, transparency, justice, opportunity, innovation and inclusiveness).
