Social Theory examines social structure, processes and phenomena. Some approaches consider the nature of history. SUSTAINABLE HISTORY AND THE DIGNITY OF MAN: A Philosophy of History and Civilisational Triumph by Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan contends that history is propelled by the tension between human nature attributes (emotionality, amorality and egoisms) and human dignity needs (reason, security, human rights, accountability, transparency, justice, opportunity, innovation and inclusiveness). It, therefore, differs from both linear and cyclical conceptions of history. It neither assumes that history is a positive trajectory toward a universal end point, such as Western liberal democracy, or governed by pre-ordained stages in a cycle. SUSTAINABLE HISTORY AND THE DIGNITY OF MAN: A Philosophy of History and Civilisational Triumph by Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan also maintains that civilization develops in relation to the balance between human nature attributes and human dignity, rather than as a result of universal laws.
Social Theory is discussed in the book SUSTAINABLE HISTORY AND THE DIGNITY OF MAN: A Philosophy of History and Civilisational Triumph by Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan.
